These are instruments used firstly by man to measure the flow of time. Initially quite simple from a technical point of view, they then become so sophisticated and complex to be considered objects of art. Even the arrival of mechanical clocks, due to their poorness in timekeeping and reliability, decreased sundials superiority,to the contrary they were initially used to periodically bring mechanical clocks to time. |
